The girls enter school in Class V, coming from their homes in remote areas into a new place in the city they are often shy. The senior girls are quick to comfort their juniors. And that is the start of a beautiful bond that lasts a lifetime.
The day in the life of HimJyotians is a thoughtfully created schedule focused on their holistic development and exposure to opportunities. The day starts early with yoga and morning assembly and follows the rhythm of classes with time for hobbies and sports in the evening. There are different clubs that enable girls to choose their interests – be it reading, listening to music, dancing or chess. Outdoor games and Sports include football, badminton, basketball, TT, and javelin. The most cherished moments are the ones created by the girls in their dorms – celebrating birthdays, or staying up late to have ‘guftagu’ sessions with their friends.
Eminent achievers in different fields of the arts, sports, music, adventure and business visit the school and share their stories and wisdom with the girls. Periodically field trips are organised to museums, corporate houses, factories and even other cities to give them a peek into life outside school.
The four school houses are named after the majestic peaks of Uttarakhand : Nandadevi, Panchachuli, Trishul and Kedarnath, embodying the values of courage, valour and integrity.
All HimJyotians are divided into the four houses which compete in sports and other activities such as debating, quizzing, dramatics, music, art, and dance. Students develop a sense of belonging and a feeling of unity by being a part of a house. This also inculcates a healthy competitive spirit among the students.
The house with the colour “Blue” is named after the peak Nanda Devi, which means ‘ bliss giving goddess’ and is regarded as the patron goddess of the Garhwal and Kumaon Himalayas. This second highest peak in India is located in the Chamoli Garhwal district of Uttarakhand.
The house with the colour “Yellow” is named after the peak Panchachuli, which is a group of five snow capped mountains lying at the end of the eastern Kumaon region in Pithoragarh district.
The house with the colour “Red” is named after the peak Kedarnath, which lies south of the holy site of Gaumukh (the source of the river Ganges).It lies in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand.
The house with the colour “Green ” is named after the three peaks of Trishul that resemble a trident. In Sanskrit Trishula is the weapon of Lord Siva. The peaks are located in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand.

At the Him Jyoti School, inclusive student empowerment programs are offered to integrate leadership and responsibility in the curriculum. The school has a robust Student Council and School Ambassador system to identify, train and empower girls to become future leaders.
The School Student Council is a body of students elected through a rigorous democratic process consisting of student nomination forms and elections where voting is done by students and teachers. It is headed by the Head Girl (Class 12) and Junior Head Girl (Class 8), supported by a vice head girl and prefects. The council administers the oath of office and responsibility in the presence of the entire school. There is a formal transfer of responsibilities to new elected members by exchange of flags.
School Ambassadors is a student driven program, where representatives are chosen by the girls, for the girls. Each grade chooses representatives that are the voice of the class with teachers. They are also the voice showcasing the life of HimJyotian to the guests and visitors in school.
These bodies play a pivotal role in being the voice of girls in each grade, addressing challenges and enabling multiple events & activities in school.
