Kabir Couplets Workshop at Welham Girls’ School
On 16th August 2016, 23 Himjyotians attended a workshop at Welham girl’s school conducted by Shabnam Virmani a renowned documentary film maker, singer and artist. It was an interactive session in which she recited couplets of Kabir in the form of songs. She stated that answers to many of our day today problems can be found through the knowledge of these couplets.
Inter School Patriotic Song Competition at DPS Dehradun
On 30th July 2016, ten students from Him Jyoti School participated in patriotic song competition which was held at DPS. The competition was won by Children’s Academy. It was a learning experience for HimJyotians.
Senior and Junior GK competition was organised wherein the students displayed their mental ability. It consisted of six rounds- current affairs, audio-video, challenge round, rapid fire, subject based and newspaper round for the Juniors. A warm up round based on cartoons was also added. The results are as follows: Seniors and Juniors Winners were Panchachuli House, First Runner up Nandadevi and second runner up Trishul House.
Avantika group/Solo Dance Competition & Vivekananda Awards - Sabina Subba (XII) participated in the solo dance competition organised by Dr. Anand Agar-wal at Sai Grace Academy . She performed a Lavani dance and won a silver medal. Principal Mrs Jyoti Dhawan and Ms Nupur were felicitated with “Vivekananda Samman” Award.
Soch Theatre Visit - 16-member team of Soch Theatre visited our school to perform a street play on road safety rules & a short play on "Akal Daad". Thereafter Him Jyoti girls performed their street play "Mujhe Jawab do" which was highly appreciated by all.
School Closes for summer break - 16th May 2015 was the last day of work before the summer vacations. A Science Exhibition with working models was organised for the parents. Yoga display & dance on "Awaz Do" followed by felicitation of meritorious students ceremony. Five teachers and Principal ma'am were awarded with "Shishak Samman - Avantika".
School Reopens With Tree Plantation - On 19th July 2015, Senior girls planted Silver-oak trees on the school campus .
Investiture Ceremony - On 23rd July 2015 the Prefectorial body was investitured with the batches and took oath of office...to do their best to uphold the name of Him Jyoti...now and forever!
Inter house English Debate– Junior and Senior - On 30th and 31st July , Inter House Debate competition was organised by the English Department. The topic for the senior debate was "Competition creates more Harmony than Discord". The topic for the junior debate was "Natural disasters are not natural they are manmade". Overall Nandadevi House stood first.
It was a successful venture as each student emerged a victor, adding debating skill to her store.
Martin Luther king Jr: Poetry Competition - The International Poem Writing Competition in which 8 girls sent their poem. Among the 8 2 girls– Sakshi Gupta and Gushan Jahan were chosen as winners. They were felicitated with certificates, T-shirts and goodies!
CBSE Sahodaya Chess Champions - On 1st August CBSE Sahodaya chess tournament was held at DAV Public School. Three girls namely Akanksha Sharma, Divya and Aarti from Him Jyoti School went to participate in the tournament. The girls won under every category and brought back the championship trophy for the first time!
Inter house Contemporary Dance Competition - On 7th August Inter House Contemporary Dance Competition was organised bringing out the best of talent and grace. At the first position was Nandadevi House, Kedarnath came second and Panchachuli third
Graduation ceremony illumine 2015 - HimJyoti School culminated its noble endeavour to facilitate the students leaving its portals for pursuing higher education by holding a solemn ceremony in the presence of its Founder and Mentor Mr. Sudarshan Agarwal, Former Governor Uttrakhand and Sikkim and other esteemed members of the Governing Board. Mr Agarwal also gave the Dr Som Dhingra Achievers’ Awards to position holders for their outstanding performance during the year 2015. Blessings by him invoked great cheer and determination amongst the students to realize his vision for the empowerment of girl child and motivated them to reach out to the skies. Neelam Arya, 1st Position, Meghna Nanda 2nd Position and Menaka Dev 3rd Position were the recipients of the Him Jyoti Achievers’ Awards. Mr Agarwal assured the girls of his constant support in their journey to achieve their goals. The Graduation Cere-mony illuminated the hearts of all present. The highlight of the day was the announcement of Coaching Scholarship to Manisha Suyal, an HimJyotian from Class of 2012 to pursue IAS . Girls from the Class of 2015 are pursuing Bachelors’ course from prestigious Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University, Punjab University, MSU Baroda, IIS Jaipur and Doon University, SBS and Himalayan Institute, Dehra Dun.

Independence Day - The sole purpose of education is to groom the students into law-abiding and responsible citizens. Keeping this in mind and with a patriotic fervour in their hearts, Him Jyoti School celebrated Independence Day on 15th August 2015, commemorating the sacrifices of the brave and dedicated martyrs. After the hoisting of the National flag, girls performed skits and songs. Mr Vijay Khosla, a renowned architect credited with designing multiple hospi-tals globally was the Chief Guest. He has generously contributed Rs1.25 crores for the construction of the hostel building at Him Jyoti Vocational Institute.
Intact India Heritage Cultural quiz - On 17th August 2015, ten girls of HJS went for Intact India heritage Cultural quiz held at Jaswant Modern School. The quiz comprised written, verbal and audio visual rounds. It was a learning experience for all the girls.
CBSE Sahodaya T.T Champions - On 21st, 22nd and 23rd August CBSE Sahodaya Table Tennis tournament was held at Jas-want Modern School. Ten girls from Him Jyoti School went to participate in the tourna-ment. Dramatised English Elocution - In the presence of literary luminaries of supreme eminence like Mr.John Mason, Ms. Rashmi Wadhwa and Ms.Shamsa Tanvir, HimJyoti School presented the English Drama-tised Elocution on 27th August, 2015. This event has almost become an annual feature and the students once again performed brilliantly, with stress on voice modulation, diction, expression, dramatization and presentation. This year the school presented a medley of poems with different genres. The junior section performed on William Cleary’s fable ‘The Lion and the Goat’, Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘The Selfish Giant’, Lewis Carroll’s bizzare ballad ‘The Walrus and the Carpenter’ and Nissim Ezekiel’s ‘The Night of the Scorpion’. The showcase of talent and efficient organizational skills assumed an exciting crescendo when the senior section displayed their refined classic rendition of ‘The Queen’s Rival’ by Sarojini Naidu, ‘The Frog and the Nightingale’ by Vikram Seth, ‘The Inchcape Rock’ by Robert Southey and ‘Lord Ullin’s Daughter’ by Thomas Campbell.
The exceptional performances kept the audience spellbound to the last piece, eloquently proving what the great dramatist, Shakespeare, once aptly said- all the world’s a stage ... The programme concluded with the enlivening words of the judges, who shared their pleth-ora of knowledge with the gathering. The Principal, commended the untiring endeavors of the students in giving the event such a beautiful shape and declared the much-awaited results of the elocution.
Teachers day celebration - The Teachers’ day 2015-16 was organized by the students in which every class performed a dance. Many events including various games and ramp walk was organized for the teachers. The students also crowned the teachers with suitable titles. Later the teachers went to Dr.Farooq Sir's farmhouse, where they played various games. This was followed by an amazing lunch.
Visit by K.K Paul - On 25th September, 2015, HimJyoti School, Dehradun enthusiastically welcomed Honourable Governor, State of Uttarakhand Dr.Krishna Kant Paul. He was graciously greeted by the Former Governor of Uttrakhand and Sikkim, Shri. Sudarshan Agarwal, Mentor and Founder of HimJyoti School. The other dignitaries present on the occasion were eminent personalities of Dehradun and members of the governing body.
The programme started with the welcome address by the Principal, followed by Saraswati
Vandana seeking the blessings of the Goddess to bestow the light of knowledge and wisdom on all. The school dance troupe portrayed the longing to aspire and soar high in life through “Awaz Do Apne Dil Ko’ which captured the hearts of all present. Next was the dramatized presentation of Nissim Ezekiel’s poem ‘The Night of the Scorpion’ displaying selfless love of a mother and the need to rise above the dogmas prevalent in our society. It captured a well defined snapshot of Indian village life with all its superstitious simplicity.
The programme concluded with the motivating words of Governor Sir and then speech of Gover-nor Dr. K.K. Paul, who appreciated the school and all that it stands for and encouraged the girls to dream big. He assured them of his support in the activities of the school. The School Head Girl, Akansha Negi presented the Vote of Thanks.
Gandhi Jayanti 2015 - On the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of Father of Nation Shri Mohandas Karam Chand Gandhi and the former Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, Him Jyoti School paid tribute to these great leaders, who played an important role in the struggle for freedom.
This was followed by a street play to spread awareness about our sense of responsibility towards humanity and our nation. This play was also performed outside the school to spread this message to public – for the change we want can come only when we are ready to change ourselves….”Be the change you want to see”. The Hindi Department also organized a quiz related to immortal freedom fighters to revive the values of patriotism for which they sacrificed their lives. Indeed the entire day in the school was a befitting homage to these great leaders and an attempt to keep their spirit alive amongst the students. Jai Hind!
